Shantila rexroat Frazier, D.V.M.

Dr. Shantila Rexroat Frazier has proudly served the veterinary profession since 1989. Born and raised on a farm in Columbia, Kentucky, her passion for animals, particularly horses, inspired her career. Dr. Frazier graduated from Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1996. She purchased her first veterinary practice, Adair County Animal Hospital, in 1999, and has since expanded her professional footprint significantly.

In 2022, Dr. Frazier acquired All Cats And Dogs Veterinary Hospital in Bowling Green, Kentucky, with partner Dr. Allen Craig.  In 2024, she extended her professional endeavors by launching the Bowling Green Veterinary Emergency Clinic in collaboration with two other veterinary partners.  That same year, she and Dr. Pettyjohn purchased Cumberland Animal Hospital and Dr. Pettyjohn became a partner at Adair County Animal Hospital.

Dr. Frazier now practices on small animals only, with special interest in surgery and geriatric care. She remains dedicated to providing gold-standard care, actively mentoring associate veterinarians, and continually elevating the quality of veterinary services in her practices.

Outside her veterinary commitments, Dr. Frazier and her husband, O'Shaughnessy Frazier, live on a farm near Columbia with their four dogs and two horses. They have a vibrant blended family with five children: Elizabeth, who attends North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine (Class of 2028); Isaac (17) and Jackson (13), who both attend school locally; Toni, who resides in Alabama with her two children; and Blane, who is a senior at the University of Kentucky. Committed to personal and community wellness, Dr. Frazier became certified as a Bungee Fitness instructor in 2024. She and her husband will open Infinity Fitness & Wellness Center in Columbia in 2025, where she looks forward to incorporating her passion for fitness, including teaching Bungee Fitness classes. Terri Pettyjohn, D.V.M.

Dr. Terri Pettyjohn, DVM is a dedicated veterinarian and co-owner of both Adair County Animal Hospital and Cumberland Animal Hospital in Russell Springs. With 29 years of experience in veterinary medicine—19 of those as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine—she is passionate about providing the highest level of care for her patients.

Dr. Pettyjohn has a strong interest in small animal medicine and is committed to educating pet owners on how to protect their pets and promote long, healthy lives. She finds great fulfillment in utilizing diagnostics to gain a complete understanding of her patients' health, allowing for precise and effective treatment plans.

She earned a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry with double minors in Chemistry and Biology from Western Kentucky University before obtaining her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Tuskegee University. One of her favorite aspects of veterinary medicine is the challenge of solving medical puzzles—piecing together a pet’s history, examination findings, and diagnostic results to determine the best course of action. Seeing a pet recover and thrive after treatment is the most rewarding part of her work.

When not at the hospital, Dr. Pettyjohn, her husband and two children enjoy outdoor activities, traveling, and boating on Lake Cumberland.  She is also an avid gardener and landscaper in her free time at her home in Russell Springs.

Dr. Pettyjohn’s commitment to excellence in veterinary medicine, client education, and compassionate care make her a valued leader at both Adair County and Cumberland Animal Hospitals.”

Teresa A Burkhead, D.V.M.

Dr. Teresa A. Burkhead (formerly Cade) is the lead veterinarian at Cumberland Animal Hospital. She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Mississippi State University in 2013 after completing a Bachelor’s in Animal and Veterinary Science from Clemson University in 2009.

From a young age, Dr. Burkhead knew she wanted to be a veterinarian, assisting in wound management for her pet duck and helping reposition goat kids during difficult births. Her veterinary journey began over 20 years ago with a part-time job in high school as a kennel assistant, eventually progressing to a veterinary assistant before pursuing her degree.

Animals have always been a grounding force in her life, a connection she has felt even more deeply since 2022. She recognizes that for many clients, pets serve as an anchor during hardships, and she is passionate about preserving the human-animal bond. Through education and preventative care, she strives to help pets avoid health concerns and works diligently to ensure a quick and complete return to comfort and quality of life when illness or injury occurs.

Dr. Burkhead’s veterinary interests include surgery and aging pet management. Outside of the clinic, she enjoys fishing and hunting with her husband, spoiling her dogs, and caring for her diverse group of barn animals, including goats, sheep, chickens, guineas, and peafowl.
